Positive Psychotherapy-Based Family Education Program for Ages 0-6
The esteemed author of the book The Childhood Disrupted, Donna Jackson Nakazawa, states, "Clearly and concisely, the greatest gift you can give your children is to manage your unresolved issues and prevent your childhood struggles from contaminating your children's childhood." Similarly, Alice Miller explains parenthood as follows: “Every person has a secret garden, a private area where the accessories of their childhood drama are kept, which they hide from themselves to some extent. The only ones who will certainly enter this secret garden, which they allow no one else into, are their own children. When a person becomes a parent, the room comes to life, and preparations begin because the environment necessary for the continuation of the drama is prepared.”
As psychologists, we say that we pass down learned parenting models to our children until we can consciously develop and transform them. As mothers, we often find ourselves saying, "I somehow become my mother/father, displaying behaviors I swore I would never do with my child."
If these statements resonate with you, we invite you to explore the Positive Psychotherapy-Based Family Education Program for Ages 0-6, a scientifically proven and effective program. Parenthood is not a skill we are born with. After becoming parents, we try to learn parenting through methods such as applying what we have learned from our own parents, trial and error, reading books, and obtaining information from the parents around us. However, sometimes we struggle in this process, which is a new relationship and communication type for both ourselves and our child. This is why we invite you to the Positive Psychotherapy-Based Family Education Program for Ages 0-6, which is proven effective through scientific data and allows us to establish a bond both with our child and ourselves, based on empathetic and non-violent communication.
The Positive Psychotherapy-Based Family Education Program for Ages 0-6 is a family education program developed by Psychologist Dr. Elif Bengi Ünsal Özberk and proven effective through the master's thesis study conducted by Expert Psychological Counselor Eda Zenginal.
The Positive Psychotherapy-Based Family Education Program for Ages 0-6 is a bond-focused parent education program that includes skills such as establishing a secure attachment with your child, focusing on the positive, recognizing emotions, and expressing them. The program consists of four consecutive sessions, each lasting three hours.
Main Topics of the Sessions
-

-

-

Scientific Results of the Education Program
The Positive Psychotherapy-Based Family Education Program for Ages 0-6 is a scientifically proven effective education program. The scientific results, where the program's effectiveness was tested with a pre-test - post-test quasi-experimental design, are summarized below:
-
An increase in parental competence was observed in the parents participating in the education program. In other words, there was an increase in participants' ability to fulfill new responsibilities that come with parenting and manage new tasks acquired by the end of the program.
-
A decrease in stress experienced by participants due to parenting and the responsibilities brought by these roles was observed after the education program.
-
It was determined that after the education program, authoritarian parents became less authoritarian, protective parents became less protective, and shifted towards a healthy parental attitude of democratic parenting.
-
A positive change in the level of knowledge and awareness regarding parenting was observed in the parents participating in the education program.
-
Furthermore, the qualitative evaluation of the data collected from participants during the research process indicates that the program met participants' expectations, that participants experienced positive changes in terms of knowledge, awareness, and behaviour by the end of the program, found the program's duration sufficient, left the program with positive feelings, and were satisfied with the program.

Parental Counselling
In the parental counselling I conduct, I provide services such as informing parents about the developmental stages of babies and children, forming realistic expectations based on this information, guiding parents during the attachment, differentiation, and separation periods of babies and children aged 0-16, monitoring the cognitive, social, and psychological development of children aged 0-16, providing guidance in challenging life events such as divorce, relocation, and separation, and offering counselling on topics like parenting attitudes and non-violent communication within the family. Additionally, I accompany parents who wish to manage their unresolved issues and those who encounter their childhoods during their children's childhood years.
